I recently purchased a new camera-a point and shoot model-but before that I bouht a small light box to take some stock photography. These next few pics are my first attempts---I think I may need to buy a book on how to do it well.

Interestingly, I find myself drawn to noticing the different ways the camera reflects on each of the spherical parts. One would think it would be better for the camera to not get attention, but I think it adds an extra layer to the shot.

@Doug: Yeah, I'm drawn to those reflections, too. I guess you're right about not making that part of the scene. Thanks for the advice! =-)
Very nice shot, great idea.. love all the refections...but for stock shots you need some better light but that's just me don't let it bring you down lol.. keep on going practice makes perfect right.... I admire you will to try.. !! I wish I had the time to start something like that so I would appreciate it if you keep me informed about your progress...

@ColNed Pictures: Yeah, this did turn out a little too dark. The lights that came with the box are small, but bright, and I don't know that much about lighting yet, but I'll work on that! Thanks for the advice and encouragement, ColNed! =-)
Did you realize you've created a multiple portrait of your new camera? Agree with Doug: since this is about experimenting, I think the outcome is pretty satisfactory, even though it wasn't intended!

@Guillermina: I kind of like the reflections, but yeah, I have a lot of practice ahead of me! Thanks for the comment! =-)
Very well done close-up shot!

@HorseRotorVator: Thanks HRV! Glad you're back! =-)
I think you did this very well. It is a wonderful reflective subject for practice. The clarity is excellent.

@Barbara: Thanks Barbara! I'm glad you like it! =-)

@Jen: Thanks Jen! =-)
I like the reflections too. I must say, you jumped in with both feet! This is probably as difficult a subject as you could have, with such a high reflective finish. I agree, for stock, you'll need multiple lights with a full tent for this type shot. The trick is avoiding reflections, and that's not easy! But, you're off to a great start. Keep it up, & you'll do fine.

@Dang: Thanks for the feedback, Dang! I'll certainly keep working at it! =-)
I liked this photo as soon as I saw it. Framing and composition are good. Cut the left side of the frame a tad and it would be perfect. As far as the reflections go, they work. The lighting is actually up to snuff. The background would be better as a bright white or pitch black. It would completely change the emphasis of the reflections and metallic warping. If you prefer to have your reflection present, great. If you chose otherwise, it could be achieved with carefull positioning of cheese cloth or through angled mirrors or through a lens change. If your intend to sell photographs as stock, you should consider upgrading to an SLR. In the mean time, enjoy building your collection and practicing your chosen field. Have fun. Try different things. And most of all, take everything we say with a grain of salt. Just don't forget to use some salt.

@Dean Francis: I'm glad you liked the pic, Dean! And thanks for the feedback! I never thought of using a black background for this, so I'll certainly give that try! There's a lot for me to learn about stock photography--I didn't know mirrors were ever used! Can you recommend any books or websites that can help me? Again, thanks for your input! =-)
The angles that d different reflections make is interestin..also, on each lobe of d molecule, d rest of d molecule is reflected.. good one!
